There are plenty of games that aren’t very well known despite how good they actually are. I wouldn’t say the game series I am choosing is completely “hidden”, but it’s definitely not as well known as it should be.
Deponia is a point and click adventure game originally released in Germany in 2012. You follow the antics of Rufus as he tries to escape his landfill home land to live in the city of the rich, floating on the clouds in the sky.
The art, story and writing is all fantastic. The detail they put into this game is inspiring with unique little songs at the end of each chapter, so many tiny environmental details in the huge number of locations we see, and all the small animations for the interactions. The characters are likeable with their own unique personalities and Rufus is hilarious. You will also experience a variety of puzzles on your journey, but some aren’t as straight forward as you might think.
There are 4 games in this series: Deponia, Chaos on Deponia, Goodbye Deponia and Deponia Doomsday. I played the first 3 games a few years ago before Deponia Doomsday was released, so I haven’t managed to play the final chapter yet. These episodes follow on from each other so they need to be played in order. I hope to revisit these games soon and hopefully write some reviews.
Deponia is currently only £0.69 down from £6.99 (90% off) on Steam until 19th April, or the Complete Journey for £4.79 down from £31.99 (85% off), so now is a great time to give this game a go. It’s such a fantastic point and click story adventure that I would highly recommend.
