The Black Friday Sale is here so obviously it’s the perfect time to invest in some more games! There are a lot more games on my wish list this time around, so I really am struggling with deciding what to buy. Sales are on until 28th November 2017.
Games I’ve been watching:
- Nioh (£39.99 / No Discount)
- Nier:Automata (Was £39.99 / 40% Off / Now £23.99)
- Still Life Collection (Was £10.99 / 80% Off / Now £2.19)
- Return to Mysterious Island Bundle (Was £10.99 / 80% Off / Now £2.19)
- Tales of Berseria (Was £39.99 / 60% Off / Now £15.99)
- Tokyo Dark (Was £13.59 / 25% Off / Now £10.19)
- Viscera Cleanup Detail (Was £9.99 / 20% Off / Now £7.99)
- Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide (Was £22.99 / 75% Off / Now £5.74)
- Cities: Skylines: – Snowfall (Was £9.99 / 50% Off / Now £4.99)
- Cities: Skylines: – Natural Disasters (Was £10.99 / 50% Off / Now £5.49)
Honestly, I wasn’t overwhelmed with the discounts. In the end I didn’t really buy much as the Steam Winter Sale will be coming in a few weeks anyway. I only bought games that I will most likely play for Christmas, and the others I will buy in the winter sale as I’ll probably have some Christmas money to spend.
Games I bought, and why I bought them:
Still Life Collection (Post Mortem, Still Life, Still Life 2)
Popular Steam Tags: Adventure, Point & Click, Mystery, Detective, Crime, Female Protagonist.
Metacritic Scores: Post Mortem: 71, Still Life: 75, Still Life 2: 67
All three of these games are single player only and can only be player with keyboard and mouse.
I bought these games having played the Syberia games this year and really enjoying them. These games are made by the same Developers, Microids, and were made at a similar time so I thought I might like them. I wasn’t actually aware that Post Mortem was the first game, I thought it was just Still Life 1 & 2, so even though it has mixed reviews on Steam I’m up for giving it a go.
I was also looking at the Dracula series by Microids, but apparently the Steam port has sections of the gameplay missing, so I’ll give that one a miss. People recommend the GOG version, so maybe I’ll try that in the future.
Return to Mysterious Island 1 and 2
Popular Steam Tags: Adventure, Casual, Point & Click, Puzzle.
Both these games are single player only and can only be played with keyboard and mouse.
Again, I bought these because these games are developed by the same people as Syberia (Microids) and it looks like a similar style of gameplay. Although this one does look a little different to the other series by Microids, I’m interested to see what they are like. Since I only paid £2.19 for the pair, it doesn’t really matter if I don’t like them anyway.
Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide
Popular Steam Tags: Action, Online Co-Op, Co-Op, Gore, Multiplayer.
Metacritic Score: 79
This game is single player or co-op with achievement and trading cards. Partial controller support is also featured.
I only really got this game because my friends are really into it at the moment and wanted me to join them. It was at a decent discount of 75%, so I’m willing to give it a go even though it’s not my typical choice of game.
It visually looks really good, has very positive reviews on Steam and I believe Vermintide 2 is due to release next year so now is probably the best time to try it out. There’s also plenty of DLC which can be played by anyone as long as they are partied with at least one person who has purchased it. I just have the base game, but my friends have some of the DLC so I’ll be able to try that out. I’ll probably post a review on this at a later date.
Viscera Cleanup Detail
Popular Steam Tags: Simulation, Gore, First-Person, Multiplayer.
This game is single player, multiplayer and co-op with split screen. Can be played with keyboard and mouse or controller. It also has achievements and trading cards.
This game is actually hilarious when played with a number of people. Although I didn’t own this game until now, my friends bought it when it first came out 2 years ago, and I had a lot of fun watching them play and make more mess than was there in the first place due to the game physics. I’m looking forward to playing this with them.
Cities: Skylines – Snowfall
Popular Steam Tags: Simulation, Strategy, City Builder, Open World.
Metacritic Score: 72
Snowfall is an expansion to Cities: Skylines. The game is single player only with achievements and trading cards, and has partial controller support.
I bought this game a few months after it was released and played it quite a lot when they released the After Dark DLC. I’ve recently picked it up again so decided to buy some more DLC to make it more interesting. The choice was between Snowfall and Natural Disasters, but I chose Snowfall as I make a bad enough job of my roads without the need for huge meteor falling on them. I might buy Natural Disasters in the Winter Sale if I find that I’m playing the game a lot, but for now I think having the addition to uncontrollable weather scenarios will only make me more frustrated.
Games I wanted but didn’t buy, and why I didn’t buy them:
Popular Steam Tags: Action, RPG, Difficult, Hack and Slash, Fantasy.
I understand that this game has only just come out on PC, but I thought it might’ve had a 10% reduction or something. Not sure if it’s my kind of game so I’ll wait to see if it goes down in the Winter Sale as a friend wants it too.
Popular Steam Tags: Great Soundtrack, Story Rich, Action, RPG.
I’m still so eager to play this game, and it’s no. 1 on my Wishlist! Although it has gone down since the Summer Sale by another £4, I still think it’s a bit much for a game that people are still having issues with. I’m not going to have time to play this in the next few weeks anyway as I’m involved with quite a few other games at the moment, so I’ll see if this goes down anymore in the Winter Sale.
Tales of Berseria
Popular Steam Tags: Anime, JRPG, RPG, Female Protagonist, Cute.
I actually added this game to my cart and was so close to buying it. The discount since the Summer Sale has dropped another 20% (an extra £8 off) but I know I won’t have time to play it in the next few weeks. If there’s still 60% off (or more) in the Winter Sale I’ll definitely be buying this
Popular Steam Tags: Adventure, Anime, Violent, Gore, Visual Novel.
I only came across this game last week. It looks interesting and has very positive Steam Reviews. The game is described of being a cross between and point and click adventure and a visual novel. I’ve never really been a fan of visual novels, but I would like to give this game a go at somepoint, it’s just a little to expensive when I’m not sure of the details.
Cities Skylines: Natural Disasters
Popular Steam Tags: Simulation, Strategy, Destruction, City Builder.
I decided to buy Snowfall instead as I think having things destroy my town will annoy me rather than encourage me to invest more time in this game. I also didn’t want to buy two expansions for a game that I’ve barely touched this year until recently. Maybe if I get back into playing I’ll buy this in the Winter Sale, or next year sometime.
Steam are also taking nominations for the annual Steam Rewards. There are 13 categories to nominate whatever game you like until 28th November 2017. Submissions will be counted and then the public will be able to vote at a later date.
